Eugene Schieffelin. That's the man who, in 1890, released sixty European Starlings into New York City's Central Park. He thought that America should have "all the birds mentioned in the plays of William Shakespeare." Thanks to Eugene, there are now approximately 200 million European Starlings in the United States. They have out-competed many native birds for habitat and have had a negative effect on the environment.
